MyQuitDay.com was created to help smokers overcome their addiction to nicotine. Our team is comprised of former smokers and as such we have an intimate collective knowledge of the dangers of smoking, symptoms of quitting smoking and the health benefits associated with being smoke-free.
Did you know that cigarette smoking is the number one source of preventable illness and premature death on earth? Diseases caused by smoking are responsible for over 443,000 deaths in the United States each year. In 2004 smoking related illnesses cost Americans over $193 billion dollars, including $96 billion in health care costs and $97 billion in lost productivity- That’s an average individual cost of $4,260 per smoker.
The World Health Organization reports, “Addiction to tobacco kills one person prematurely every six seconds. One in two long-term smokers will die from tobacco addiction. This epidemic reflects the highly addictive nature of tobacco, and specifically of nicotine, its principal addicting component.”
Quitting smoking is not easy.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has advised that, “Nicotine is as addictive as heroin, cocaine, or alcohol.”
The good news is that quitting smoking is possible. Not only is quitting an attainable goal but the benefits of quitting are almost instantaneous.
People who succeed at quitting smoking are successful for a few key reasons:
